Why do we serve?

Heaven and earth shall pass away … but God’s Word shall remain.                                        Our post today comes from Colossians 3:13-23. NASB

  • Whatever you do … verse 17 – do all in the name of the Lord Jesus … He is the Master!
  • Sometimes it seems our lives are all about everything but the Master?                        Do we serve too many masters?                 Do many of us choose to divide our lives between the spiritual and the secular?   Matthew 6:24  - Perhaps out of political correctness.
  • Whatever you do … verse 23 — 1) In a heartfelt manner (heartily not to men but to God)  2) In a Holy manner (Galatians 1:10)  3) Do it all for the Glory of God (1st Corinthians 10:31)
  • Our Purpose is to Glorify God (Revelation 4:11)  and yes we also are to Glorify God because it all belongs to Him … check out (Psalm 24:1)
  • In today’s reading the application verses are found in Colossians 3:18-22. It’s all about Jesus … all the time.
  • Whatever you do … Do it and HE will transform daily duty into divine activity!

The Servant … A Question of Servant Hood cont.

Are you a Serve Us or a Service Person?

To begin please read Mark 14: 1-9

What did she do?  verse 8     She did what she could…

1)  With what she had…  verse 3

So what can we do?  Anything we can and with what we have. Pray that GOD would help you do more with what you have. As we also pray for each other.

2)  Recognize “Today is the Day and Some Day is Today”  Hebrews 3:13   She did what she could while she could in Mark 14:8.

We are to walk circumspectly (viewing all around as one who is wise) Ephesians 5:15-16 because the days are evil (short with peril and danger) and living not as fearful persons.

3)  Regardless of the critics … review Mark 14:4-5   She gave her best not leftovers! In verse 6, Jesus rebukes the critics and also in Jude verse 9 the response “THE LORD REBUKE YOU”  should also be our response. Read Jude

4)  Like in Jude and Mark 14:6 we see it’s about Jesus and serving Him … it is not about us. It is about pleasing to GOD not unto pleasing men! As we see Mark 14:9 make note of the Gospel … which is He Died for our sins, He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the 3rd day. Amen — review 1st Corinthians 15:3-4.

Summation:     Have you received His forgiveness?     If so then what will you do for Him as a person of service?

THE SERVANT … A Question of Servant Hood

THE SERVANT … A Question of Servant Hood

Jesus – All Powerful yet (John 13:3-5)

Jesus – Servant of the Father  (John 13:12-17)

1)     Who is to be the servant?       We Are!           (John 13:13-17)

In (Matthew 20:25-28) …“servant” means “through the dust” thus we are to be so busy that you create a cloud of dust with enthusiasm and desire to please v26

“slave” means “one who subjects himself to another” v27

From which we associate our word deacon.

2)     Who are we to serve?             Christ              (1st Cor. 4:1)

“servants of Christ” means “an under rower” like in the bottom of a ship powered by those whose job was to row. This was done in unity, with perseverance, with determination, giving it their all following the beat of the master’s drum.

3)     How do we serve?      By being trustworthy or to prove faithful      (1st Cor. 4:2)

“sacrifice of will”        (1st Cor. 9:19), (Phil. 2:5-8),     (1st Cor. 4:11-13,16)

4)     Will we serve?         Yes      “as stewards of the mysteries of God”          (1st Cor. 4:1)

5)     Where/ When will we serve?             “Always”

“wherever your Master directs”        (Matthew 25:21)

Joshua was referred to as “Moses’ servant”  (Joshua 1:1-2)

“be strong and very courageous – be careful … that you may have success”            (Joshua 1: 7-8)

6)     What does God want?        “His children to be successful”          (Matthew 16:18-19)

Summation:    I. Firm Foundation in word of God  II. Faithful Effort  III. Fruitfulness

What does it mean to be a Christian?

They were first called Christians in Antioch… Acts 11:19-26

We see first (Persecution), second (Preaching), third (Power), and fourth (Proof).         “Persecution” with three effects (suffering, being scattered, and spreading) “Preaching” – the evangelism of the Good News “Power” with three effects (sanctioned, salvation, and strengthening) “Proof” (serious scholarship, substantial sum of people being converted, and stated semblance to Christ – would the courts be able to convict you by evidence and behavior)

What will they call us?                                                                What do they call us?
